Grace Church of the Islands was completed by Brian Felder as design principal while a partner at Potincy, Deering, Felder, PC.
This project involved the development of a new campus for a burgeoning Presbyterian Church on an 11-acre parcel on Wilmington Island. Our work included master planning of the site for a Sanctuary, Family Life Center, Classroom Building and outdoor activity areas.
The First Phase of the project involved the design and construction of a new 16,000 square foot building that included a gym sized multi-use room, classrooms, a kitchen and administrative areas. The building will be used as the worship center until a future sanctuary is built and this building becomes the congregation’s Family Life Center.
Budget control was paramount in our design effort. The client wanted to maximize the square footage while keeping control of the dollars spent. They were also concerned that the current design be able to fit with future buildings. Stucco, split-face block and a metal roof were used on the buildings exterior. Detailing, though simple, was established to work with design ideas established for the future sanctuary. The interior included painted CMU walls, carpeting and vinyl tile flooring. Materials that are durable, yet easy to maintain.
