Project Description
Historic preservation is a cornerstone at Felder & Associates, so this project was welcomed with open arms. Recognized with a 2016 Historic Savannah Foundation Preservation Award, this project exemplifies the successful marriage of historical authenticity with modern functionality.
The challenge lay in balancing the homeowner’s desire for a modern, functional space within the confines of a historic 600-square-foot elevated cottage. Drawing inspiration from the space optimization principles of Airstream trailers and Gulfstream jets, the design team created a highly functional yet historically sensitive living environment. Despite the limited footprint, the couple, an art professor and a gourmet chef, were treated to a modern galley kitchen equipped with a remarkable double sink configuration. Their art collection was seamlessly showcased with the integration of artwork throughout the space. Additionally, furniture with hidden storage provides ample storage solutions without sacrificing aesthetics.
